Feed For Calves With Scours
1-2 ounce package Sure Jell Pectin
2 teaspoons Low Sodium salt (Morton’s Lite salt)
2 Teaspoons Baking Soda
1 can Beef Consommé soup
2 Quarts warm water
Dissolve pectin in a little hot water (it’s hard to dissolve, so stir or whisk till dissolved) or put it in a jar with lid and shake well. Add salt, soup and the soda last. Feed while the soda is still foaming a little. Make fresh for each feeding. Feed 1-2 quarts depending of the size of the calf; 3 to 4 times daily until the calf is up sucking. You can feed with a stomach tube or in a bottle.
For a half batch, use 2/3 cup soup, 2 Tablespoons plus ½ teaspoon Pectin, 1 teaspoon soda and 1 quart warm water.
